These are some of the simple chords of melody that make a home harmonious and happy. Kindness, consideration, courtesy, care, laughter, unselfishness, prayer, thoughtfulness, doing things for each other, forgiving each other, sustaining each other, loving each other--these are notes that form a family symphony happily enjoyed and eternally remembered.

To be happy, I need to think about feeling good, feeling bad, and feeling right, in an atmosphere of growth.
Gretchen Rubin
I thought a lot about what today's quote should be in the midst of the 11th commemoration of the tragedy in New York City on this exact day. This one felt appropriate. I think we sometimes forget that to know happiness we need to know sadness and it is important to know what makes us feel bad. It is important to take time to reflect on those hard times, but more importantly it is important to reflect on them as a starting point for growth.

When we accept duties willingly and faithfully, we find happiness. Those who make happiness the chief objective of life are bound to fail, for happiness is a by-product rather than an end itself. Happiness comes from doing one's duty and knowing that his life is in harmony with God and His commandments.
Joseph B. Wirthlin
